Steve Reynolds, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2968 at St John, volunteered his carpenter talents from April 2007 to March 2008 to help the Haitian Health Foundation in Jeremie Haiti. Steve helped improve the medical center facilities as well as other structures at the compound and native homes. Beisdes tools and other suppies for Steve, the Council wanted to assist this very impoverished population and Dr Lowney & his daughter Marilyn suggested fund raising to build new "Happy Hut" replacement homes for the most needy families among the 104 villages that HHF supports with food and medical treatment.

The officers of the Council received permission for the Old Saybrook Selectman's Office to perform a fund raiser concert last Aug. on the town green. Despite the inclement weather, Steve's family, Father Joe Ashe, Father Joseph Kaipayil and members of the parish ministry joined the knights for a wonderful evening of delightful electronic keyboard music and singing.

From the concert donations and council contributions, $2000 was given to the HHF for three "Happy Homes" last Fall. Construction was completed after the hurricane and rainy seasons. Attached are the three pairs of photos of the families at their before and after homes. The Knights of Columbus Council 2968 is honored with plaques on the front wall of each Happy House.

The council is tremendously pleased to support these very needy children and parents. The officers and parish thank all those who contributed so generously to this unique charitable cause.
